Structure & Materials

Pre-Course Work: Before you Start

For all internationally trained nurses, we suggest that you begin the pre-course work about 4-6 weeks before starting the course. We suggest this for two reasons. First, since your lessons will focus on your critical thinking skills, you’ll want to ensure you have reviewed all the nursing material that will be examined on the NCLEX. Secondly, we recommend you use this period to become more comfortable with the academic-style English that's used on the exam.

Course Structure

Your Anywhere course will start with a diagnostic test, which will determine your strengths and weaknesses. This will help you to create a tailored study program.

You will have scheduled class times to attend via the virtual classroom. You will also use the Question Trainer, QBank and practice tests during your course to evaluate your progress. You will get access to your online resources for 4 months.

Course Materials

  • 4 months of online access - including a Test-Taking Workshop and Strategy Seminar, orientation video, frequently tested nursing content and access to video-streamed review of class questions

About the NCLEX

Test Overview

The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN exam) determines if it's safe for you to practice as an entry level nurse in the US. It is significantly different from other tests you would have taken at nursing school. The NCLEX-RN® exam isn't knowledge based, instead it is application-based. The test will examine how you use critical thinking skills to construct nursing judgments.

The framework of the NCLEX-RN® exam is based on, "Meeting Client Needs". You'll see four main categories and eight subcategories. All of the questions you'll face on the exam entail the use of integrated nursing content. You will be required to incorporate medical, surgical, pediatric, psychiatric and obstetric nursing content learnt as separate entities during your nursing program.

Test Format

The CAT

CAT (computer adaptive test) is a testing format that adapts based on your answers to the questions.

The first question you encounter shall be fairly easy, which is below the minimum level of competency. If you choose the correct answer, the test adjusts and provides you with a tougher question. If you select the wrong answer, you will be asked a slightly easier question. The computer will do this throughout the test until it is finally able to determine your competence level.

Test Scores

Once you have taken your NCLEX-RN exam you'll receive a pass or fail. You won't receive a numerical result.

2-4 weeks after you have taken the exam you'll be notified by the individual state board of nursing of your result.

How to Register

To register for the NCLEX-RN® exam you have to submit an application to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

You can contact the NCSBN through their website. This will supply you with the contact information of the state you wish to work in as well as the individual procedures each State Board requires you to follow.

Some states have combined registration for the NCLEX-RN® test. In all other states, you have to apply for a license with the State Board of Nursing, in the state that you wish to become licensed. Once you've applied, you will receive a Candidate Bulletin to register for the NCLEX-RN® exam.

You have to register through the individual state boards to receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) - the document you will need to register for the NCLEX-RN® exam. You send this with your test application to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Register outside the US by calling 001-952-681-3815.
